The Pac-Man arcade game debuted. Ronald Reagan was elected President and sports became political when the US boycott the Moscow Olympic games.

The year was 1980 and the question on everyone’s mind was: “Who shot JR?”

You could rent an apartment for $300.00 and the cost of a new car was on average about $7200.00. Pretty sweet? But can you imagine purchasing a VHS camcorder for $1,599.00?

Fur Hats and Boas made appearances on and off the runway that year. And box office hits included Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Nine to Five, and Raging Bull.

Popular musicians included ABBA, Blondie, David Bowie, The Cars, Queen, and Diana Ross.

Americans were looking to escape the extreme heat with a one-way ticket to “Funkytown.”

Featured in Lipps Inc. debut album, Mouth to Mouth. “Funkytown” spent four weeks at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song went double platinum and is considered to be one of the last hits of the disco era.
