Fall Colors Could Be The Best Ever – Why?

We’re probably still some weeks away from peak color not only in the mountains, but here in the Piedmont, too.  Experts, though, are saying we could be seeing ‘spectacular color’ this season!

 

Why is that?

 

Our drought.

 

 

Mother Nature apparently has a ‘give and take.’  The ‘take’ is a very dry, rain-less spring and summer, and the ‘give’ is the beautiful fall colors still to come!

According to WRAL.com, “Experts in biology at Western Carolina University say 2015 could be one of the best leaf color seasons in recent memory. Professor Kathy Mathews says unusually dry weather is causing colors to pop.

Experts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) say occasional heavy rain through the growing season helped the area stay out of drought, but the drier than normal soil usually means brighter leaf colors.”
