After you read this, you’ll want to run to Bed, Bath & Beyond or Target! What color are your bed sheets? You should check because, as it turns out, preventing bed bugs could be as simple as having the right color sheets.

A new study from the University of Florida has discovered that bed bugs prefer to hide in darker color sheets, like red or black, over other lighter colors. Previous studies seemed to show that bed bugs couldn’t distinguish color very well in the dark, which is when they do most of their moving and feeding. However, when the bed bugs had light shone on them as part of this bed sheet color study, they tended to gather in the darker shades and away from colors such as white and yellow.

Many homeowners get bed bugs through no fault of their own. It can happen if you travel and the hotel you stay in happens to have a problem with the tiny pests. Bed bugs can come home with you in your luggage. In any case, it’s time to find a white sale and stock up!
