We might see a few more chilly nights over the next couple of weeks, but it appears that winter is over. It may not have lasted long but even a little bit of freezing weather with snow and ice can take a toll on your house and yard. Before you head off to this year's Southern Spring Home & Garden Show (2/24-2/26, 3/3-3/5), you'll want to give your property a thorough inspection. That way you'll know what has to be done and what you'll need to buy. Here are some maintenance chores you should tackle ahead of any April showers we might get:

1. Replace damaged roof shingles

2. Clean out gutters and downspouts

3. Examine exterior wood trim for moisture

4. Repair and seal cracks in concrete driveway, walkways, and patio 

5. Check exterior faucet for freeze damage and garden hose for dry rot

6. Inspect chimney for cracks and critters 

7. Fill low areas around foundation with compacted soil to prevent pooling water 

8. Schedule annual AC service
