We celebrate Armed Forces Day on the third Saturday of May every year and you may be wondering why we do!
Louis Johnson who was the United States Secretary Of Defense at the time announced on August 31, 1949, that Armed Forces Day would replace separate Army, Air Force, and Navy days.
This came from all Armed Forces being unified in the newly formed Department of Defense which was founded August 10, 1949.
The first Armed Forces Day was May 20, 1950 which marked a day to celebrate the men and women of the Armed Forces as well as show off “state of the art” equipment.
This May 20, 2017 take time to shake a hand, give a hug, or even buy a coffee and say thank you to the men and women of our United States Armed Forces!
