Warbirds Over Monroe Nov. 11 and 12
The Warbirds Over Monroe Air Show is just a few short weeks away.
More than 40 WWII aircraft, re-enactors, children’s activities and vendors will gather at the Charlotte-Monroe Executive Airport to take part in this family-friendly annual event.
The air show, which takes place on Veteran’s Day Weekend, honors our nation’s service men and women and is an excellent venue for educating all who come about the bravery and sacrifices of our armed forces.
This year’s show will feature the eight-plane Pearl Harbor recreation group Tora! Tora! Tora! The group gives a stirring and moving display of what it was like during those fateful moments during the Japanese attack on the U.S. naval base in Hawaii.
There will also be P-51 Mustangs, giving guests a glimpse of high-speed precision flying at its best; as well as a C-47 that flew in Normandy; Huey and Cobra helicopters; a Douglas C-54; Pitts Biplanes; T-6 Texans; and, of course, Monroe’s very own C-46 The Tinker Belle. Rumor has it that there may also be a plane that lands on the back of a pick-up truck!
Guests are always encouraged to talk with the pilots and learn the history of each aircraft. There will also be opportunities to speak with men and women in uniform and to thank them for their service.
“This event is one of the best educational opportunities around to teach the younger generation about the sacrifices and accomplishments our service men and women have made to ensure our freedoms,” said Pete Hovanec, event organizer. “Historically, the event is great, but there is also a ‘Wow’ factor that will leave you gasping for air as you see what these amazing aircraft are capable of.”
Warbirds Over Monroe is also pleased to welcome the US Army Aviation Heritage Foundation, which will present a stunning Vietnam helicopter battle re-enactment as well as Huey and Cobra helicopter rides for the whole family. Additionally, the National Guard will be on hand with a children’s area featuring a rock-climbing wall.
There will also be hundreds of military reenactors representing various time periods and countries. They will have educational displays and will be ready to share information about their time period and what it was like to serve.
Ticket prices at the gates are $15 for adults, $10 for students ages 12-18, and $5 for Veterans. Children under age 12 are admitted free. Click here to purchase discounted tickets.
