Imagine riding your bike or even walking down the middle of a busy Charlotte street without having to worry about any cars or trucks. That’s the idea behind the biannual Open Streets 704 and the Spring 2018 edition is happening on Sunday, April 29th, 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
A four-mile route beginning at 36th and North Davidson Streets, then winding through the NODA, Optimist Park, Villa Heights, Belmont, and Plaza Midwood neighborhoods, will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic, making way for cyclists and pedestrians, as well as a variety of vendors and performers in the following sections:
- Arts and Science Zone – music performances, artist demonstrations, interactive projects, and dance ensembles.
- Green Zone – gardening, local plants and wildlife.
- Family Zone – street soccer, cycling demonstrations, and crafts.
- Wellness Zone – yoga, Zumba, and other fitness classes.
Open Streets 704 will end at the shops and restaurants on Commonwealth Avenue in Plaza Midwood, but you can hop on and hop off anywhere along the route. And if you need some wheels, B-Cycle is providing free bike rentals at each hub.
