It’s been a very sad week in regard to celebrities and suicide. Celebrity chef, author, and TV host Anthony Bourdain was found dead this morning at a hotel in France. The cause of death is suspected suicide. The news of Anthony’s death comes just a few days after designer Kate Spade took her own life. Depression doesn’t care if you are a celebrity, popular, or wealthy. Depression and mental illness affect ALL walks of life. It doesn’t matter where you live, how much money you have, your religion, your ethnicity…….depression, and anxiety can hurt anyone.

I have been in that “dark hole” and almost didn’t make it out alive. Last year, when musician Chris Cornell committed suicide, I wrote a blog piece on his death, and on dealing with depression.  You can read it here.  PLEASE, PLEASE know that you should never be ashamed if you are suffering from depression, anxiety or any other mental illness. And please, PLEASE know that help is available. If you don’t feel that you can talk to your family or friends about what you are going through, reach out to someone else.  The National Suicide Prevention Hotline is 1-800-273-8255.  Information about finding help can also be found here.   As hard as it is, you CAN recover!
