I woke up very early Saturday morning with one hell of a migraine headache. I don't suffer from migraines but will get one maybe once or twice a year. I was in bed all weekend because of this thing, and sadly I still have it. This morning when I woke up, my neck was stiff big time. I'm sure it's because I slept on it wrong, or because I was in bed all weekend.
Yesterday, while on the phone with my Mom, I told her about a headache. Immediately she says, "It could be a tumor." Really?! Come on Mom! LOL! She went on to explain that one of my aunt's recently had a tumor removed from her eye. Now, I realize my Mom just wanted me to know that there is a family history, but the way she said it could be a tumor hit me wrong. I mean, damn Mom! Worst case scenario! I mentioned a headache on social media, and a friend said, "You may have meningitis." Again...........DAMN!! Worst case scenario!
I realize people are only being helpful, my Mom included, and mean absolutely no harm, but it made me think. As a society, lots of us immediately think "worst case scenario".......we think the worst. I understand why. Many of us think if we expect the worst. Then if what's happening isn't TOO bad, we can be relieved. I also think that many people expect the worst because we have been "trained" to think that way. We are all constantly bombarded with "bad" news on a daily basis. We see it online, on TV, read it in newspapers, and hear things via friends. I think the media, all media, tend to focus on the bad way more than the good. I'm guilty of thinking negatively more than positively.
In my life, I am trying to focus more on the good, as we seemed to be slammed with the bad on a constant basis. I think we all need to lighten up and look for the good. Have a cupcake, stop and look around once in a while, smile at what you see, be silly, and have fun. I guess there's always the chance that I could have a tumor. Then there's the chance that it's a sinus infection, and I'll be fine in a week. :)
I say we all try and stop the "worst case scenario" thinking and focus on the positive. That's gotta make life easier, don't ya think?
Smile & rock on!
