Perhaps you've heard rumors of a really good $7 bottle of wine sold at Walmart. I'm hear to tell you that the rumors are true.

My wife and I were never big fans of Trader Joe's budget-friendly "Two-Buck Chuck." In fact, we had been living under the assumption that most wines under $15 were average at best. Oh, how wrong we were. There are, in fact, quite a few modestly-priced reds and whites from all over the world that are very good and Walmart carries a prime example.

La Moneda Malbec Reserva was awarded Platinum Best in Show by Decanter Magazine at their 2016 Decanter World Wine Awards. The magazine described it as having a “deep purple color with violet tints, rounded and velvety tannins, complex plum, fig, and strawberry flavors and excellent length.” The description on the back of the bottle goes so far as to explore the wine's psyche:

My take is that this Chilean Malbec is full of fruit flavor with a crisp mouthfeel, but not too dry, and without much aftertaste. It complimented my roast pork fajitas very nicely and didn't give me a headache like so many other red wines do. Certainly worth the $6.98, before tax, at Walmart.
