When I look around Charlotte, I sometimes find it hard to believe that anything was here before 1977. Our city is all about looking forward and building for the future.

Apart from some old churches and grand homes, there are very few vestiges of the distant past still standing in the Queen City. However, America still has plenty of towns that will make it seem like you've traveled back in time.

Well-known examples of living U.S. history include St. Augustine, FL and Colonial Williamsburg, VA (above). Even nearby Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA can have you feeling like you've stepped out of a time machine. And Old Salem is a must for every North Carolinian, especially during the holiday season. If you like the idea of exploring historic American towns, check out some more "time travel" destinations HERE.
