Got pork? If not, we know where to find lots of it this month. Get ready to pig out at these three fall events:
October 20: Shelby, NC hosts Mush, Music & Mutts, which is another name for the Official North Carolina Fall Liver Mush Festival. For the uninitiated, liver mush is a Southern “delicacy” made with pig liver, head parts, corn meal, pepper, and sage. If you’re from Pennsylvania, you’ll recognize it as being similar to scrapple. Not everyone appreciates it as much as I do.
October 25: For 89 years, Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church has been hosting the tastiest fundraiser in Charlotte. The annual Mallard Creek BBQ also serves as a meet-and-greet with local politicians campaigning for votes. But the real stars are the pork barbecue and Brunswick stew. Get there early!
October 27: How big is the Lexington Barbecue Festival? Let’s put it this way: Lexington, NC isn’t known as the “Barbecue Capital of the World” for nothing. A great way to get yourself to their 35th annual pig pickin’ is by train. Once a year, Amtrak makes special stops in Lexington just for this event. Take the choo-choo to the chew-chew!
