POP! No one can resist the siren song of Bubble Wrap. As soon as you hear that first pop, you might as well clear your schedule because you're going to be pinching and twisting for a while.

And there's no better day to indulge in your addiction than today.

The last Monday of January was designated as Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day by a radio station in Bloomington, Indiana. As the story goes, the station had received a shipment of new microphones which had been packaged in Bubble Wrap. As the mics were being unwrapped and installed, the sound popping bubbles inadvertently went out over the air, and a holiday was born.

Did you know that Bubble Wrap was invented to serve an entirely different purpose? In 1957, Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes set out to create a three-dimensional plastic wallpaper. Although that idea never caught on, the two inventors figured out that their product could be used as a packing material. Fielding and Chavannes went on to found Sealed Air Corporation, which has been headquartered in Charlotte since 2014.

Bubble Wrap, we salute you!
