It has been a year since the Great Necco Wafer Panic. And the SweetHeart Drought of 2019 almost derailed Valentine's Day.

The New England Confectionery Company (Necco), maker of both of those iconic candies, has since closed its doors. But there is hope.

To recap, the New England Confectionery Company went out of business in July 2018 and shut down its Massachusetts factory. That left candy lovers wondering what would become of their favorite classic treats like Necco Wafers, Candy Buttons, Mary Janes, Squirrel Nut Zippers, and my favorite, Clark Bars.

Some of the Necco candies are coming back (Candy Buttons), but others (Mary Janes, Squirrel Nut Zippers) might not. Still more are in various stages of pre-production thanks to other companies who are working to revive the brands. For a breakdown of which of the former Necco candies are returning and when, and which ones are stuck in purgatory, click here.
