The original version of Disney’s The Lion King was amazing in 1994. It still holds up extremely well. So why remake one of the most successful animated films of all time? Technology.

There are moments in director Jon Favreau’s (top) new interpretation of The Lion King when you’ll swear you’re watching real animals on National Geographic. Nope. Computers.

Another reason to see the 2019 version is to hear the A-list voices of Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, Billy Eichner, John Oliver, Keegan-Michael Key, BeyoncĂ©, and of course, James Earl Jones. But don’t just take my word for it. Here’s the first full trailer:

The Lion King opens in theaters nationwide on July 19th.
