The NASCAR Foundation and NASCAR Hall of Fame Foundation are gearing up for the return of Over the Edge Charlotte. The second annual fundraising event will be held September 24th and 25th at the Embassy Suites Charlotte Uptown. Actually, it’ll be on the Embassy Suites.
Tuesday, September 24th will be “VIP Day,” featuring celebrity participants, including former and current NASCAR drivers like Rusty Wallace and Kurt Busch, rappelling 100 feet down the side of the 10-story hotel across the street from the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Wednesday, September 25th is “Individual Rappel Day” and will be limited to the first 130 people who raise $1,000 each.
At last year’s Over the Edge Charlotte event, nearly 100 participants, including seven current NASCAR drivers, raised close to $200,000. Proceeds help provide care for children battling pediatric cancer, as well as scholarships for students in the Charlotte area to participate in the NASCAR Hall of Fame STEM education workshops.
I went “over the edge” last year. That first small step from the roof to the side of the hotel is more like a leap of faith, but once you get going, it’s a lot of fun. If you’d like give it a shot and help these great causes, click here for details.
