I know we’re on the verge of pumpkin spice season. Or maybe we’re already in it. I can never tell when it starts anymore.
It might have been on the 4th of July this year. Regardless, I’ve been silent long enough. The true flavors of fall are apple cider and donuts. Nothing fancy, just liquified apples and old-fashioned cake donuts. But it’s oh so right.
Pumpkin spice is fine. I’m not advocating to get rid of it. I’m just asking for a little more love for the classic autumnal tastes of apple cider and donuts. Or, if you’re 21 or older, hard cider and apple cider donuts. I’m flexible.
Not familiar with the tradition of cider and donuts? No, it’s not just another one of Phil’s weird northern things. Swing by Windy Hill Orchard & Cidery in York, SC this fall. Yeah…South Carolina. You’ll see.
Our friends at Dunkin’ are also whipping up Apple Cider Donuts this fall. Their apple-flavor cake donuts are tossed in a cinnamon-sugar mixture. They’re available as Munchkins, too.
