As kids head back to the classroom, the area's largest school district is warning parents about some popular smartphone apps. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools has put out a list of fifteen apps that could be dangerous to children.

The apps themselves don't pose a danger. It's the other people on those apps who may have bad intentions and could use the technology to targets kids. Here's the list:

  • MeetMe
  • WhatsApp
  • SnapChat
  • Skout
  • Tik Tok
  • Badoo
  • Bumble
  • Grindr
  • Kik
  • LiveMe
  • Holla
  • Whisper
  • AskFM
  • Hot or Not
  • The "Calculator” apps

That last one is especially alarming. Some kids are using programs to hide the apps on their phones. For example, an app that looks like it’s just a calculator could be something children shouldn't see.

As parents, we need to know what our kids have on their phones and monitor their usage. The same goes for online video games. It's a dangerous world out there.
