Parents in every part of the world have felt this pain, but now there's hope. If you have a young child who struggles, or even refuses to sleep, scientists have found a way that doesn't involve melatonin or threats of grounding.

Researchers in the Music and Science Lab at Durham University in the U.K. created the formula for the "perfect lullaby" by analyzing the key, tempo, repetition, pitch and other features of 4,500 songs. And the winner is..."One" by U2.

Ironically, the song's lyrics are anything but soothing. U2's guitarist, The Edge, says it's a "bitter, twisted, vitriolic conversation between two people who've been through some nasty, heavy stuff." Not exactly the stuff of sweet dreams, but most toddlers won't understand the words anyway.

The next time your little ones are fussy at bedtime, let Bono and the boys send them off to la-la land.
