Historic Rural Hill’s Amazing Maize Maze corn maze has been canceled this year due to dry weather, and lack of corn crops.
Executive director, Jessica Bustamante, said,
“We’ve just had a rash of issues. This is the first year that we’ve not been able to open. It’s sad.”
The corn maze is typically the farm’s largest annual fundraiser, so now the historic farm is asking for donations to help.
The farm tried out a new strain of corn this year, but the strain did not grow. Farmers tried to replant in August but due to the weeks of dry weather, it simply did not grow.

Unfortunately, over 4 weeks with less than 1 inch of rain has led to some Un-Amazing corn, which means we are unable to open the Amazing Maize Maze for this year. Despite our best efforts, our corn field has experienced multiple difficulties, including a first attempt at a crop that did not emerge, and then extremely dry conditions over the last few weeks after replanting the field. We look forward to the Amazing Maize Maze every year not only as a fun family friendly farm event, but as a major source of funding for our cultural and education programs as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We still look forward to having all of our loyal patrons, and their four legged family members, out for the 25th Annual Sheepdog Trials and Dog Festival on November 9-10, 2019. In addition, please mark your calendars now for the 2020 Loch Norman Highland Games on April 18-19, 2020. Historic Rural Hill is a private non-profit organization located in Huntersville, NC. We operate a 265 acre working farm that is owned by Mecklenburg County Parks and Rec. Rural Hill is a working farm, historic site, educational facility, nature preserve, and event site. We would love to have you visit us for one our events or to learn more about the sites history.
