Here comes 2020! The start of a new year often gets people thinking about self-improvement. The older I get, the more I think about keeping my body and mind in good running order. If you’re also hoping for a healthier twelve months, here are a few things you might want to incorporate into your daily routine:
- Drink water – Begin your morning with a glass of water to jump-start your daily hydration.
- Eat breakfast – Boost your brain power with a balanced meal. Smoothies are a good way to sneak more fruits and vegetables into your diet.
- Exercise your body – Even just a short, brisk walk or some jumping jacks can energize you, could improve decision making during the day, and may even help control your blood pressure.
- Exercise your brain – Crossword puzzles (my favorite!), Sudoku, or even some video games can increase your neuroplasticity. By opening up more pathways in your brain, you expand your cognitive abilities. Also, people with high neuroplasticity have been shown to be less prone to anxiety and depression.
- Meditate or pray – Decrease stress, improve concentration, and get an overall sense of well-being.
- Read more – It reduces stress, increases your ability to solve problems, and even respond to other people’s feelings.
- Stretch – It can improve posture, enhance circulation, and help you release mental stress. There’s a reason cats do it all the time.
