Throwback Video Of The Week: Duran Duran “A View To A Kill”
Billie Eilish announced this week that she will sing the theme song for the next James Bond movie, No Time To Die. But will it be a hit? In the long history of those films, the only artists to reach number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 with a 007 theme song were Duran Duran. They did it in 1985 with the title track from A View to a Kill, the last Bond movie to star Roger Moore.
The song was written by Duran Duran and John Barry, who composed the scores for 11 of the Bond films between 1963 and 1987. It incorporates the signature secret agent sound we expect to hear in a James Bond movie. In 1986, “A View to a Kill” also earned Barry and Duran Duran a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song.
The video includes clips from the movie interspersed with shots of Duran Duran working a surveillance operation at the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It ends with a rather unimpressive explosion, but that doesn’t take anything away from the greatness of the song.
