Throwback Video of the Week!

This being the week of Valentine’s Day, we thought we should work love into the Throwback Video. “Lovefool” by Swedish pop rock band The Cardigans fits the bill nicely.

Released in 1996, “Lovefool” was initially a hit in Europe but went on to climb the charts all over the world. It was also featured in the films Romeo + Juliet (1996), Cruel Intentions (1999), Virgin Territory (2007), as well as the TV show Glee and, hilariously, on an episode of The Office.

The video has a nautical look to it, almost as though it were directed by SpongeBob SquarePants. In fact, it was directed by Geoff Moore and begins with a man marooned on an island putting a message in a bottle. The action continues with Nina Persson and The Cardigans performing the song inside that bottle. Midway through the video, the band is interviewed by several scuba diving reporters. All it needs is a cameo by Squidward.
