In 1988, Bon Jovi was on top of the world. That year, they followed up their best-selling album Slippery When Wet with another chart-topper: New Jersey. If Jon Bon Jovi had been able to run for governor in the Garden State in ’88, he might have won.
The first single released from New Jersey was “Bad Medicine.” It went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was Bon Jovi’s third song to do so.
There are two videos for “Bad Medicine.” One is a straightforward concert shoot, but the version more people remember includes a cameo by the late comedian, Sam Kinison. He convinces the fans waiting in line to get into the video shoot that they could do a better job than the professionals. Members of the crowd are given handheld cameras and invited onstage to help with the filming, giving the video a DIY look with a lot of big ’80s hair.
