Governor Roy Cooper Declares State of Emergency As NC Deals with Coronavirus
As of today, (3/10/20) North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper declared a state of emergency Tuesday as leaders continue to deal with the coronavirus outbreak.
The state of North Carolina now has several people who have tested positive for COVID-19. Monday’s five additional cases were all linked to people who traveled to Boston in late February to attend a BioGen conference. As you can see below, Governor Roy Cooper addressed leaders with a state of emergency for North Carolina stating there is a shortage of supplies and we are waiting for FDA approval for new tests.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention hasn’t delivered promised testing supplies to North Carolina, Cooper said. The state reached out to the supplier of these chemicals directly, but they’re currently “on backorder,” officials said. North Carolinians with questions or concerns about COVID-19 can call the COVID-19 phone line toll-free at 866-462-3821. This helpline is staffed by the North Carolina Poison Control 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
In South Carolina, seven people have also tested positive for coronavirus. Health officials say one of the seven people from South Carolina flew into Charlotte-Douglas International Airport. You can read more about the story here.
