Local Restaurant Making Sure Kids Eat During The Coronavirus Crisis
Schools are out for the next few weeks, which totally makes sense, but unfortunately this will cause many children in our communities to go hungry. Sadly, there are lots of children that only get meals from school, so when school is closed, it’s an issue.
Luckily, there are many organizations, people, and local restaurants that are willing to help out. The Loyalist Market in Matthews will be giving a free sandwich to any child that currently receives free lunches in the North Carolina school system, starting Tuesday, March 17 and going until March 30.
Last Thursday the NC Department of Public Instruction, School Nutrition Division, did receive waiver approval from the US Department of Agriculture that will allow schools closed due to COVID-19 to serve meals through the National School Lunch Program’s Seamless Summer Option or the Summer Food Service Program “in a noncongregate setting.”
Still, many local people are stepping up to help in any way they can. The folks from The Loyalist Market said they hope to help get the community through this very challenging time.
I’ve never been to The Loyalist Market, but I’ll definitely make a trip out there now. I love how local people are coming together to help others, especially children.
If you know of any group, restaurant, or organization that is helping to feed others in this trying time, please let us know! We would be more than happy to spread the news!
