Let’s all be honest. Working from home isn’t the worst thing in the world. Sure, it comes with some challenges but at least it’s work. That being said, many telecommuters have had enough and would much rather have somewhere to go for their Zoom calls other than the living room.
If you can’t go back to your office yet, why not check into a hotel? Well, at least for a day. According to the Wall Street Journal, hotel operators in the U.S., Germany, and Australia are offering rooms as offices at discounted daily rates. The hotels’ marketing departments are targeting professionals eager to get out of the house with the lure of privacy, high-speed internet, and even a minibar. That last one could actually be a problem.
Hospitality companies are looking for ways to recoup the financial losses caused by travel bans. Revenue per available room at U.S. hotels dropped nearly 84% in the week ended April 11th. It’s the biggest decline on record. Also, 70% of U.S. hotel employees have been laid off or furloughed as a result of the pandemic.
So get yourself a hotel room office! You could attend your next Zoom meeting in one of those luxurious bathrobes. Oooh…amenities.
