The (now-former) Atlanta police officer who fatally shot Rayshard Brooks in the parking lot of a Wendy’s restaurant on June 12 was charged with felony murder, the district attorney’s office announced.
NBC News reports that Garrett Rolfe, who was fired by the Atlanta Police Department after the shooting, faces 11 total charges. A second officer, Devin Brosnan, was placed on administrative leave; he faces three charges, including aggravated assault. In a press conference, district attorney Paul L. Howard, Jr. said Brosnan stood on Brooks’ body after the shooting and Rolfe kicked him.
The district attorney is asking both men to surrender by 6 p.m. Thursday.
