Nearly 90% of Americans have been working remotely since March, and it seems not many are ready to go back to the office. In fact, a new survey from Fast finds that 66% of the respondents would go so far as to take a pay cut if it meant they could continue working from home.

Why the reluctance to return to regular, pre-pandemic working conditions? For starters, 39% of those polled are less comfortable returning to the office as compared to just 30 days ago. That might have something to do with the recent nationwide surge in coronavirus cases.

I also suspect that a lot of remote workers have simply gotten accustomed the comforts of casual attire and being able to create their ideal office at home. When you aren't spending money on commuting, dry cleaning, and dining out, maybe a pay cut isn't so crazy. Just how much income would people be willing to give up in order to keep working remotely? Check out these numbers:

  • 14% would take a 1-4% pay cut
  • 29% would take a 5-14% pay cut
  • 17% would take a 15-24% pay cut
  • And 7% would take a 25% or more pay cut!
