For only the second time in its 56-year history, Festival in the Park has been canceled. The annual three-day arts event was scheduled to take place during the weekend of September 25th in Dilworth’s Freedom Park.

Festival in the Park attracts more than 125,000 attendees every year. With the coronavirus crisis far from over, the decision to cancel the 2020 event is prudent.

As long as I’ve lived in Charlotte, I’ve looked upon Festival in the Park as a signal of fall’s arrival. I know I’m not alone in looking forward to its return next year. You can see the official statement from the festival organizers below:

Festival in the Park, Charlotte NC

As our community continues to navigate an unprecedented health crisi... s, the decision was made to cancel 2020's Festival in the Park. This is the Festival's second cancellation since it's founding in 1964. We look forward to rejoining everyone at Freedom Park for Charlotte's long-standing community celebration of visual and performing artists in September 2021.
