The Very First Christmas in July Was Hosted in North Carolina
Break out the ornaments and string the lights, it’s Christmas time. (well, sort of)
It’s the unofficial holiday of the Summer, it’s Christmas in July and the history behind the day s pretty interesting. Some of you may know this, but if you don’t, I am excited to shed some light on the story behind the very first Christmas in July.
Back in the Summer of 1933, the very first Christmas in July was celebrated at an all-girls summer camp called Keystone Camp in Brevard, North Carolina. (Yes Way!) The celebration featured a Christmas tree, artificial snow, and even Santa Claus. Each year after, the camp continued to host the celebration and slowly but surely, the tradition began to spark and flourish across the country.
Luckily for us Charlotte residents, we have Christmas town USA, Mcadenville very close by, so we can enjoy the magic of Christmas all year long! Brevard isn’t too far away either, where some July festivities are still held to celebrate the holiday fun.
