New Yorkers Are Renting Tiny Rooftop Lawns During The Pandemic
My family and I have lived in our current home since 2005. Never in all those years have I spent as much time in our backyard and on the patio as this year. As we’ve been reducing our trips out since the initial March restrictions, I’ve been very grateful to have a little green space. I can only imagine what this year has been like for apartment dwellers.
In New York City, people will do anything to get out of their apartments while being social distant outside in the fresh air. That’s why so many Manhattanites have been willing to rent one of 28 mini lawns, known as The Greens, on The Rooftop at Pier 17 this summer.
According to The Insider, each 14 x 14-foot lawn can accommodate up to eight people and comes with two cabana chairs, an umbrella, a cooler, and a USB port. They also have gaming lawns for activities such as bocce and giant Jenga, plus a 32 foot-wide LED screen for streaming TV.
The Greens are open daily from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM, weather permitting, and lawn renters can buy food and beverages there. “NYC’s ultimate socially distanced restaurant experience” has become so popular that there’s actually a waiting list to reserve a lawn! You can check it out HERE.
The Greens are open! Alfresco in style—and safety—with some of the best views in the city. Reserve your own socially distanced mini lawn in advance @ https://t.co/XZV2Tl4xqj
