Hot on the heels of news about a flying car being developed in Japan, CNET has reported that the Federal Aviation Administration officially designated Amazon as an “air carrier.” That puts Amazon one step closer to delivering packages via drones.
Amazon Prime Air has no specific start date for providing the service but the company has already been testing drone deliveries in Canada and the U.K. It’s unclear whether we’ll see delivery drones in Charlotte at all. In its petition for FAA approval, Amazon said deliveries would occur in areas with low population density.
Although daily drone delivery service isn’t happening yet, Amazon already has some competition for the skies. UPS and Wing (Google) have also been cleared by the FAA for commercial drone deliveries.
How long do you think it will be before the first falling package accident?
