Keith Urban: How The Pandemic Changed His Album
Keith Urban’s new The Speed Of Now Part 1 album will be released next Friday (9/18) just a couple of days after he hosts the ACM Awards in Nashville.
Urban spent much of the year working on the album which he started working on in 2019.
As he shared with us, the pandemic did change the album just a bit, “I think some songs in this record are reflective of it and born of it ‘Out The Cage.’ The opening track is very much predicated from this time.”
He adds, “But I love songs that transcend hopefully any sort of one definition and so ‘Out The Cage,’ even though it was predicated on sort of confinement and stay at home orders and being stuck and sort of locked down and all that sort of stuff for me, you know, humans being confined isn’t all that’s meant. It means all kinds of things. It could be what we’ve just been going through around the world in the last in this year, but it can also be sort of a dead end jobs or stuck relationships or just things sometimes of our own making.”
Urban then explains, “I can be my own worst enemy sometimes I’m my own prisoner and I just want to break out and take off running. So that song speaks to all of that. But that song probably wouldn’t have happened without this period.”
