COVID-19 has turned the world upside down in 2020 but we're still finding ways to do the things that need to be done. With the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks this week, memorial events and ceremonies will be adjusted with the public's health in mind.

Patch reports that Charlotte's annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb will be virtual this year. Event organizers encourage participants to complete the stair climb a 9.11 K run/walk or workout between 8:46 a.m. and 10:28 a.m. on Friday, September 11th. You can also complete the event at your convenience anytime before December 31st. Proceeds support the families of local fallen firefighters and the FDNY Counseling Services Unit.

Another annual event is the 9/11 Flags of Remembrance Ceremony. According to the organizers, a reflective memorial ceremony will be held on Facebook Live beginning at 8:30 AM on Friday. A bell will toll at 8:46, 9:03, 9:37, 9:59, 10:03 and 10:28. A steel beam from the World Trade Center will also be displayed.
