The drones are coming and they’re bringing groceries. UPS, Google, and Amazon already have FAA approval to deliver by drones. Another big American company is joining the competition.
CBS 17 in Raleigh reports that Walmart has begun testing their own drone delivery service in North Carolina. The retailer is using drones from Flytrex in Fayetteville. That’s where they’ve launched their pilot program to practice delivering groceries and household essentials.
Walmart is hoping the Fayetteville tests will lead to smooth service for their customers, but a company representative says “it will be a while before drones are widely used for package deliveries.” My guess is that this will all happen sooner than we think. Here are some more details from CBS 17:
