This Soccer Player Had A Really Bad Day At Work
We’ve all had bad days at work. Many of us have even had moments when we felt like frauds, wondering why anyone would pay us to do anything. Well, I’m here to tell you it could always be worse.
Aster Vranckx is a striker for KV Mechelen in the Belgian Pro League. In soccer, strikers play up front and are often the ones to score goals. Poor Aster had the perfect opportunity to do so in his team’s match against KV Oostende on Saturday, September 12th.
With Mechelen on the attack, Oostende’s goalkeeper punched the ball rather weakly away from the net and landed on his back. A Mechelen player kicked the ball at the goal, it hit the crossbar, landing in front of Aster Vranckx about six feet from a wide open net. None of Oostende’s players were in any position to defend what was quite possibly the easiest shot in the history of soccer.
But it was not to be.
Vranckx inexplicably muffed what should have been nothing more than a tap in for a goal to give his team a 1-0 lead. Instead, the striker appeared to have stepped on top of the ball, thus falling down and sending the ball into the right post, at which point an Oostende player was able to kick it out of play.
To make matters worse, KV Mechelen ended up losing the match, 1-0. This could be why they are currently ranked 16th out of the 18 teams in their league.
The good news is that Aster Vranckx is only 17-years-old. With a little time, and possibly some therapy, he should bounce back to enjoy what will hopefully will be a long and fruitful professional career on the pitch. It can only go up from here, right?
This sequence of play from the Belgian league might just be the most entertaining we've ever seen.pic.twitter.com/rzf5wLOMMa
