Throwback Video of the Week!

The loss of Eddie Van Halen has been felt around the world. The 65-year-old rock guitar icon passed away on October 6, 2020 after a years-long battle with cancer. With all of their success and influence, it’s hard to believe that Van Halen had only one chart-topper on the Billboard Hot 100.

The group’s sole #1 hit was “Jump” from their sixth studio album, 1984. That album reached #2 on the Billboard 200 album chart, behind Thriller. Ironically, Eddie Van Halen played guitar on “Beat It” for Michael Jackson so, in a way, Eddie occupied the top two spots on the album chart at the same time.

The video for “Jump” was directed by Van Halen’s lead singer, David Lee Roth. It was nominated for three MTV Video Music Awards, and won for “Best Stage Performance.” But the best thing about this video is the joy on Eddie Van Halen’s face. He always looked like he was having the time of his life when he had a guitar in his hands. Rest in peace, Eddie.
