Moment With Mel: Not Buying Bigger Clothes
This year has caused some serious anxiety for many of us. Years ago, I used to kickbox to deal with stress and anxiety. Unfortunately, over the last two years, my body hasn’t been able to do that. I’ve recently been diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder and I have some neck/spine issues. When the pandemic started, I started eating. And I mean EATING!
Now, I’m not totally at fault. I have been on six rounds of steroids since January, and those things make me EAT. But, I’m responsible for eating Ben & Jerry’s way too much. I’m a stress eater and an emotional eater. I didn’t deal with my stress the right way so I gained some serious weight. I didn’t realize how much weight I gained til my clothes didn’t fit. For the past three months, I’ve been wearing yoga pants and gym clothes. Basically pants with an elastic waist.
Of course, the weight gain made me more anxious, so I started eating more! Not a productive cycle. Not only am I uncomfortable, but my confidence has disappeared. An awful feeling. And I surely don’t have the cash to buy a whole new wardrobe. Nor do I want to. I shouldn’t be the size I am.
Three weeks ago I began Profile by Sanford. It’s not a diet. It’s a wellness plan. It teaches you to make better choices not only to lose weight, but to have a healthier life. Having trained at the gym for years and having been to an athlete, I KNEW how to eat right. I just haven’t been doing it. With Profile, you have an eating schedule, which helps you stay on track. Everyone’s schedule is different. You aren’t having three meals a day, you’re eating around five or six times a day. This is helping me. I’m not getting crazy hungry, and I’m not missing the ice cream.
I can eat all the veggies I want, while my protein and fat intake is limited. My carbs are limited as well but I’m not hungry. As of this morning, I’ve lost 13 pounds. My goal is to lose at least 30 more pounds. Obviously I have a way to go. But, I didn’t put the weight on overnight, so it’s not gonna disappear over night.
Profile has health coaches that educate you on nutrition and support you. Every week I meet with my health coach to go over my progress, and chat about my victories and my slip-ups. This will sound silly but I passed on eating a cupcake earlier this week. Even Phil was shocked! Did I want it? Yup! But I analyzed the situation before eating it. I asked myself if the calories were worth it. I decided no, so I passed.
Meeting with a health coach weekly has been a help. I’m a person that needs to be accountable. If I mess up, it shows up on the scale and I have to fess up to a cheat. And yes, I’ve cheated. No one is perfect and slip-ups will happen. That’s life! But when I cheat, I just start over the next day and try and do better.
I eat mindlessly so I’m trying to be aware of that. It’s helped to not have junk food in the house. Prepping fresh veggies for the week has also helped me. I make sure I have celery, cucumbers, cauliflower, and peppers cut up. That way if I need a snack, I can just grab some veggies. I’m learning some new recipes too! I enjoy cooking so I like making new recipes and trying new meals.
Profile has a Facebook group comprised of members and I’ve found it helpful too. It makes you feel better knowing that you aren’t alone. And it’s a great place to find new tips that have worked for other people.
Profileplan.com is where you can go if you’re interested. Each week I’m going to blog about my progress, and share some healthy recipes. If you’re looking to lose weight and get healthier, Profile may be what ya need!
