Jon Stone’s beloved 1971 children’s story The Monster at the End of This Book is coming to life in a whole new way. The Los Angeles Times reports that the book has been adapted for first-ever animated special from Sesame Street.

The 30-minute show, entitled The Monster at the End of This Story, will feature new sequences and songs. Grover is the star of the original book. In the special, he’s joined by Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Cookie Monster, and Rosita. It will begin streaming Thursday, October 29th on HBO Max.

Sesame Workshop enlisted a bevy of celebrities to help promote the show with a read-along of the book. The storytellers include Ciara, Lil Nas X, Billy Porter, Olivia Wilde, Josh Groban, Jason Sudeikis and other famous folks who appeared on Elmo’s HBO Max talk show, The Not Too Late Show. They filmed the video at the beginning of the year, before the coronavirus shutdowns. When you think about, 2020 is the perfect year for a story about being afraid and finding courage.
