By now, most of us have adjusted to celebrating our holidays pandemic style. Fewer people around, less food, and an overall lower-key vibe have been the hallmarks of the 2020 holiday season. However, from my perspective, it hasn’t been bad. We’ve still been able to see family and friends via Zoom, we’ve had enough to eat, and presents were delivered to their intended recipients. It could have been worse.
As we prepare to flip the calendar to 2021, our typical ways of ringing in a new year will be sidelined. No fancy parties, no crowded gatherings in city centers, and considerably fewer kisses as midnight. So, just as we did for Thanksgiving and Christmas, we’ll relax at home with those closest to us. All we need is a chilled bottle of champagne, a few delectables, and some entertainment.
The New Year’s Eve countdown shows will still be on, but I tune in for those at about 11:55 PM. That leaves a few hours to fill. Board games and playing cards are good options. So are movies and there are actually a few that fit the New Year’s Eve theme. Here are five you may want to consider for December 31st:
- When Harry Met Sally (1989)
- The Hudsucker Proxy (1994)
- The Apartment (1960)
- The Holiday (2006)
- New Year’s Eve (2011)
