Zayn Malik Says The Grammy Awards Are Rigged
Zayn Malik called out the Grammys, saying that you need to bribe them to get nominated for awards.
Malik took to Fuck the grammys and everyone associated. Unless you shake hands and send gifts, there’s no nomination considerations. Next year I’ll send you a basket of confectionary.
The 28-year-old singer is not nominated for any Grammy Awards this year. The 63rd Grammy Awards airs this Sunday.
His latest album Nobody Is Listening was released in January of this year, missing the cut-off date to be eligible for this year’s show. His previous album, Icarus Falls was released in 2018 and was not recognized, Page Six reported.
Former One Direction bandmate Harry Styles is up for three awards, including Best Pop Vocal Album.
Malik isn’t the first musical artist to call out the Grammys for unfair nominations.
Following his snub for the 2021 awards show, The Weeknd tweeted “The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency…”
Drake shared these views of The Grammy’s adding, “I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artists that exist now and the ones who come after.”
Per the outlet, Drake’s single “Hotline Bling” won best rap song in 2017, but had no rapping in it. “Maybe because I’ve rapped in the past or because I’m Black, I can’t figure out why,” Drake said of his win at the time.
Fans rallied behind Malik on Twitter:
Thinking about Zayn’s tweet. We can all be excited for Harry’s opportunity to win a Grammy & perform at the show. That is totally okay. However, it’s also important to consider the many artists who are snubbed every year for reasons beyond their control (i.e. race, gender, etc.)
