Throwback Video of the Week!

Rick Stewart/Allsport

You know it as soon as you hear the opening conga beats, followed by the tropical itinerary including Aruba, Jamaica, Bermuda, Bahama, Key Largo, and Montego. It all leads to “Kokomo.”

The Beach Boys’ song about the fictional place “off the Florida Keys” was released in the summer of 1988 for the movie Cocktail, starring Tom Cruise. The single topped the charts in the U.S., Australia, and Japan. It was later included on the Beach Boys’ 1989 album, Still Cruisin’. The song also popped up memorably in the sitcoms How I Met Your MotherSpace Force, and Full House, among others.

Speaking of Full House, one of that show’s stars appears in the official video for “Kokomo,” which was filmed at Walt Disney World’s Grand Floridian Resort in Orlando. That’s John Stamos backing up the Beach Boys on percussion.
