These Are America’s Favorite Cheeses
Comedian Jim Gaffigan has a funny line about how much cheese you have to put on a salad to make it appealing. He’s not wrong. Cheese makes everything better. But what’s your go-to cheese? According to Eat This, Not That, America has a clear favorite.
In a survey conducted by YouGov, 9,000 Americans were asked to choose their favorite cheeses from a list of 16. Cheddar was the winner by far, taking 19% of the vote. It was followed by American with 13%, then Mozzarella, Swiss, Pepper Jack, and Colby Jack. I’m surprised mozzarella didn’t rank higher, given our national infatuation with pizza.
The least popular pick was Ricotta with just 1% of the vote. Feta, Goat Cheese, Gruyère, and Muenster didn’t do much better, each getting only 2%. The most surprising result of this survey is that 4% of Americans voting say they don’t like cheese at all. Not even grated Parmesan on your pasta?
