Everyone loves sandwiches. Right? I mean, the definition of what is and what’s not a sandwich is always up for debate. And there are myriad types of sandwiches and combinations, but it’s unfathomable that even the pickiest of eaters couldn’t find at least one sandwich to enjoy. At the end of the day, portable nourishment is something everyone can get behind.

Setting aside the “is a hot dog a sandwich” debate for a moment, what do you think are America’s favorite sandwiches? Don’t think too hard. Luckily, 24/7 Wall St. did the work for us with a ranking based on a poll that asked folks to give feedback on 22 different sandwiches. Topping the list is Grilled Cheese, with 79% of Americans saying they “really” or “somewhat” like it. People in the South like grilled cheese more than the national average, 82% vs. 79% across the nation. The rest of the list is below.

I have questions. Where are the Italian hoagie and the Philly cheesesteak? Those two show up on a lot of menus. How could  something called “cheese and tomato”and “cream cheese and cucumber” be on the list, but not a classic Italian or cheesesteak? Maybe it’s just the Northeasterner in me, but I’m calling b.s. on that. And I thought the “chicken sandwich wars were heating up.” Where’s the crispy/breaded/fried chicken sandwich? I figured that would be at the top of the list!
