TV spin-offs are a gamble. Some have been great, like The Jeffersons (All in the Family) and Frasier (Cheers). Others have not. Anyone remember Gloria (All in the Family) and The Tortellis (Cheers)? More recent examples of spin-off misfires include Fuller House (Full House) and Joey (Friends). But a new one is coming that gives reason for hope.

One of the more consistently entertaining animated shows of the past couple of decades, SpongeBob SquarePants, is getting a spin-off. According to Variety, SpongeBob's sidekick, Patrick Star, is getting his own Nickelodeon series simply called The Patrick Star Show.

In this prequel, we'll get a glimpse into young Patrick Star’s life in his parents' home, where he hosts a TV variety show for the neighborhood from his bedroom. The family-themed sitcom is being produced and voiced by the creative team behind the original series, including Bill Fagerbakke as Patrick and Tom Kenny as SpongeBob.

Another SpongeBob spinoff, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, arrived earlier this year on Paramount Plus. The Patrick Star Show is set to debut in July on Nickelodeon. Here's a peek:
