If you know of someone in need of groceries or if you're in need, help is available today! The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is partnering with Second Harvest Food Pantry to distribute free groceries Wednesday afternoon.
The food giveaway is happening outside Parkwood Institutional CME Church on Tom Hunter Road from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m., while supplies last. The food boxes that are available will have meat, fruits, vegetables and baked goods.
We all know people who have been deeply affected by the pandemic monetarily. It's been a very hard year for so many people. This is an awesome event to make sure those in need have food. You don't need a referral or an appointment to get a food box, but you'll want to get to the event early. The boxes will go on a first come, first serve basis.
Since the start of the pandemic, Second Harvest has given out over 20 million pounds of food than they did prior to COVID. About 75% of the food they receive comes from donations. If you're able to donate to help others in the community, details are here. You can donate food, money, and you can also volunteer your time.
