Fans of “That Little Ol’ Band from Texas” are mourning the loss of Dusty Hill (top left). The ZZ Top bassist and singer passed away on July 27, 2021 at the age of 72.

The trio of Hill, Billy Gibbons, and Frank Beard (who, ironically, was the only band member without a beard) first got together in 1969, but the Houston band enjoyed peak chart success with their 1983 album Eliminator. The third single released from that collection was “Sharp Dressed Man.”

The video for “Sharp Dressed Man” continues the theme of the “Gimme All Your Lovin'” video released earlier in 1983. It’s basically a reverse Cinderella story featuring a man stuck in a menial job getting a leg up in the world with the help of the band and some mysterious women who show up in the Eliminator, ZZ Top’s iconic 1933 Ford Coupe hot rod. The man gets some new clothes, a major dose of confidence and, eventually, the girl.

According to Songfacts, “Sharp Dressed Man” boosted ZZ Top’s fan base significantly thanks to MTV showing the video in heavy rotation. Here’s a little bar trivia for you: one of the women in the video, Jeana Tomasino, would later become Jeana Keogh and star in The Real Housewives of Orange County.
