Couple Shuns Modern Technology And Lives Like It’s The 1930’s
Can you imagine not using technology? No television, computers or any form of modern entertainment. That’s what one young couple in England has decided to do. They’ve shunned all modern day amenities and are living like it’s the 1930’s.
Ruth Shelly, 28, and her boyfriend Robert Oestmann, 27, have given up all modern day fixtures in favor of a 1930’s lifestyle. The clothing they wear clothing from that era, and their home is decorated in a 1930’s style. They have a vintage car and vintage bicycles. They don’t watch TV, they don’t use computers, and they entertain themselves listening to music on a gramophone.
The couple really enjoys history, and they try to bring as much of the 1930’s into their lives as possible. Shelly is a research historian and Oestmann, is a whisky salesman. They got into the 1930’s style after watching old movies and reading books. They both enjoy the more formal fashions of the time period better than today’s “extremely casual” clothing. He wears suits and caps, while she dresses in dresses from the 1930s and 1940s.
And if that wasn’t wild enough, the couple even eats vintage, using old school recipes from their favorite era. Their favorite? A depression-era meatloaf made with tomato soup. But there’s one modern convenience they do embrace – cell phones. Both of them have one, but you won’t find them scrolling through social media on it. They’re mostly used for contacting people. This retro pair says their lifestyle is actually good for their relationship because it allows them to be focused on each other.
Can you imagine letting go of all the modern amenities and not having Netflix?! LOL! The horror!
