After years of construction outside my apartment in preparation for this… today is finally the day that the CityLYNX Gold Line Streetcar starting operating for passengers.
The streetcar started around 5 am on Monday morning, and connects the West End area to Elizabeth neighborhood, passing through Uptown Charlotte on its way. The Gold line runs every 20 minutes from 5 am to 2 am, sevens days a week with a fleet of five separate streetcars.
The best part is though, passengers can ride the streetcar for FREE until January. Not only is this amazing because it is free(for the time being) public transportation, which Charlotte could definitely use more of, but it will also hopefully cut back on carbon emissions and traffic during rush hours.
The new CityLYNX Gold Line opens TODAY, connecting Charlotte’s Historic West End to the Elizabeth neighborhood. It runs every 20 minutes from 5am until 2am, seven days a week...Did we mention it’s FREE until January?? More on @WBTV_News at 630a. 🚊 @CATSRideTransit pic.twitter.com/WTxfE6IHLj
